It used to be that back in the day TVs were quite bulky, you absolutely had to buy a stand for them or you could just sit them on the floor. But, of course with time comes advancement in technology and now we have some really amazing TVs available to us that still come in “big” formats, but they now are much slimmer such as the flat screen plasmas or LCDs.
The one thing about these TVS is that you simply cannot buy just any TV stand for them, and frankly, I do not think you would want to! With the old TV stands you could only watch the TV from the prime seat in the front of the TV or sofa and if your favorite chair was off to the side or you had a few people over that were watching the TV, you had to practically crane your neck just to see the darn thing!
Well, now things have changed with swivel stands! You see these stands just about everywhere these days; bars, restaurants, even hospitals. These swivels come in two main options. You can either choose a stand with swivel brackets for TVs or you can buy just the swivel brackets designed for televisions that anchor into your wall – I have even see ones where you can anchor them into a fireplace!
The stands will include a main stand that goes up the back of the anchor (usually a floor drawer or stand anchor) and the brace will have the swivel “arms” right on the brackets. Then, you can choose how high or low you want the TV to be and all you have to do is set up the brackets on the back of the TV and either attach, hook, or screw it to the base swivel.
The point of the swivel is to allow you to “turn” the TV any way you want. This not only allows everyone to be happy when watching TV but it can also reduce glare if your TV does not have a glare free screen. You can have it straight ahead, left, right, etc. They usually move up 15 degrees and over 180 to 360 degrees depending on the swivel you get and the brand option.
These might look a little scary at first, after all, it is just “metal”, but I can absolutely assure you they are safe and they will hold your TV up. Each swivel bracket comes in different variations depending on your TV. So you can find a Z-line swivel bracket for 55inch TV or a Samsung 25 inch swivel bracket.
It is always suggested that you try to find a bracket that matches your TV brand, but I also find that this is not incredibly necessary because the brackets usually match the TV size and weight not necessarily the brand of the TV. Very easy to set up, just follow the directions on the package, and you will have a new TV set up in less than an hours time!
One suggestion from a seasoned swivel bracket to you – make sure you get 2-3 people to help you place the TV up on the brackets for the swivel, this can be quite exhausting especially if you have a big time like I do – it is a 50inch 115lb TV!
